Prince Harry slammed for ‘playing victim’ after quitting beloved charity

Just hours after Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso announced their resignations from the African charity Sentebale, the organization’s chairperson, Sophie Chandauka, released a sharp and pointed response defending her leadership and challenging the princes’ narrative.

Prince Harry’s exit from the charity he co-founded nearly 20 years ago with Prince Seeiso in Lesotho and Botswana came amid deep tensions within the organization. Their joint resignation statement spoke of a relationship with the board that had “broken down beyond repair.”

However, Sophie Chandauka, a Zimbabwe-born lawyer who was appointed chair of the trustees last year, responded forcefully via The Mirror, pushing back against the claims and defending her stewardship.

Sophie emphasized her commitment to Sentebale’s mission, stating that she doesn’t view the organization as a “vanity project.” She added, “As a proud African, I am in pursuit of the integrity of the organisation, its mission, and the young people we serve.”

Without directly naming Prince Harry, Chandauka issued a veiled critique, saying, “There are people who behave as though they are above the law and mistreat people, and then play the victim card and use the very press they disdain to harm people who have the courage to challenge their conduct.”

She went on to question the situation, asking, “Why would the Chair of the Board report her own Trustees to the Charity Commission? Why would the High Court of England and Wales hear her case and issue an emergency injunction to prevent the same Trustees from removing her as the Chair of the Board?”

Chandauka claimed that her actions were driven by a need to expose serious issues within the charity, including “poor governance, weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, misogynoir, and the coverup that ensued.”

Reaffirming her position, Chandauka said she remained focused on her responsibilities: “The law will protect me,” she stated, adding that her attention now turns to fundraising efforts in support of Sentebale’s goals.

This latest exchange signals deepening discord within the charity once heralded as a symbol of Prince Harry’s philanthropic legacy, raising further questions about leadership, accountability, and the future of the organization.
