The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre has raised concerns with the U.S. embassy in Ireland over a meeting between President Donald Trump and mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor, which took place on St. Patrick’s Day.
According to The Guardian, Rachel Morrogh, the chief executive of the crisis center, highlighted that McGregor was found liable for rape in an Irish civil court just four months ago. She argued that his White House meeting sends a troubling message.

“The meeting between Trump and Conor McGregor was really very sinister, and we have called it out for what it is, which is … an attempt to rebuild the very damaged reputation of Conor McGregor,” Morrogh stated.
She further expressed her dismay that such a high-profile political office was involved. “I think what has really shocked us is that the office of the president of the United States, which is so respected and so revered, is being used to launder Conor McGregor’s reputation.”
In November, an Irish civil court ordered McGregor to pay £210,000 in damages to a woman who alleged he “brutally raped and battered” her in a Dublin hotel in 2018, as reported by The Guardian. McGregor has denied the allegations, claiming the encounter was consensual, and he intends to appeal. A hearing on the matter is scheduled in Dublin on Friday.
During his White House visit, McGregor, a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion, used the platform to voice his opposition to Irish immigration policies. The Guardian reported that he claimed Ireland was “potentially losing its Irishness” and accused some rural towns of being “overrun in one swoop.”
The publication further noted that McGregor has received support from controversial figures such as influencer Andrew Tate and anti-immigration campaigners in Ireland. His reach on social media has been amplified by Elon Musk’s retweets, bringing his views to a wider audience.
