President Donald Trump broke his silence on Saturday, issuing a forceful directive to Republican lawmakers, urging them to support a GOP-drafted continuing resolution (CR) to prevent a government shutdown.
The temporary funding measure, announced by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), would keep the government operational until September. Trump, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, made it clear that he expects full Republican unity behind the bill.

“The House and Senate have put together, under the circumstances, a very good funding Bill (‘CR’)! All Republicans should vote (Please!) YES next week,” Trump wrote. “Great things are coming for America, and I am asking you all to give us a few months to get us through to September so we can continue to put the Country’s ‘financial house’ in order.”
Trump’s message, delivered in his signature all-caps style, left little room for disagreement within the GOP ranks. “NO DISSENT,” he warned. The former president framed the CR as a necessary step to maintain government stability, arguing that Democrats would seize any opportunity to force a shutdown.
“Democrats will do anything they can to shut down our Government, and we can’t let that happen,” he added. “We have to remain UNITED — NO DISSENT — Fight for another day when the timing is right. VERY IMPORTANT. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump’s intervention underscores his continued influence over the Republican Party, as lawmakers prepare for a vote on the resolution. While some GOP members have expressed skepticism about another short-term spending package, Trump’s direct appeal may push hesitant lawmakers toward approval.

Speaker Johnson, facing pressure from both moderates and hardline conservatives, has framed the CR as a strategic move to buy time for Republicans to negotiate a more favorable long-term budget deal. The bill’s passage could prevent a government shutdown, but it remains unclear whether Trump’s strong-arm messaging will be enough to unify the entire GOP caucus.
With the vote expected next week, all eyes will be on how House Republicans respond to Trump’s call for party discipline—and whether any dissent emerges despite his demand for unity.
