Alyssa Farah Griffin Criticizes Democrats’ Protests During Trump’s Congressional Address on ‘The View’

Former White House communications director and current The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin didn’t hold back in the latest episode when discussing the Democrats’ protest tactics during Donald Trump’s Congressional address on March 4. During the lengthy speech, Democratic attendees attempted to fact-check Trump in real time, holding up signs that read “false” whenever they believed he was spreading misinformation.

The following morning, The View panelists dissected the drama, with Griffin offering a different perspective focused on optics rather than the substance of the protest. She criticized Democrats for what she saw as performative stunts rather than meaningful action and instead praised Senator Elissa Slotkin for delivering what she considered a far more effective response to Trump, reported Entertainment Weekly.

“I thought Elissa Slotkin was masterful and gave Democrats the winning message they flailed to have, but I thought the antics on the floor were not helpful,” Griffin told her co-hosts. “I don’t think that waving a cane is the optics that the Democrats want. I don’t think holding up signs, which are now just being mocked on the internet… It’s like, who is advising these people?”

Griffin’s stance is not unexpected, given her increasingly fiery exchanges at The View’s Hot Topics table since Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. One particularly contentious moment from Trump’s speech came when Rep. Al Green disrupted the proceedings, calling out Trump’s stance on Medicaid while shaking his cane in the president’s direction—an act that led to his removal from the chamber.

Legal expert and co-host Sunny Hostin also had strong words about what she perceived as the Democrats’ lack of strategic unity during the March 4 address. “I was looking for signs of an opposition party, which is what the Democratic Party must be at this point, not a resistance because resistance is passive,” Hostin declared.

“Opposition is active. I think what I saw when Rep. Al Green stood up and said, ‘You don’t have a mandate to take away Medicaid,’ and he was tossed out? I expected the rest of his Democratic caucus, the rest of his colleagues, to walk out with him. Alone you can survive, but together you thrive,” she added.

Tensions on The View have remained high, especially when moderator Whoopi Goldberg had to cut off a heated exchange between Griffin and former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. The debate reportedly flared when Griffin pressed Jean-Pierre on campaign-related issues, prompting Jean-Pierre to push back, stating that regarding Biden’s campaign, she was not privy to those details.

With political tensions mounting in Washington, the Democratic Party’s response to Trump continues to fuel debate over the best way to challenge his administration effectively.
