Trump Declares Himself ‘King’ While Killing NYC Congestion Pricing Plan

President Donald Trump referred to himself as “king” while celebrating his decision to revoke approvals for New York City’s congestion pricing plan on Wednesday.

“New York State’s congestion pricing plan is a slap in the face to working-class Americans and small business owners,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a statement, criticizing the program as “backward and unfair.”

The Value Pricing Pilot Program (VPPP), approved on November 21, was set to impose a $9 charge on some Manhattan drivers starting in January. Duffy announced that he would work with the Federal Highway Administration to facilitate an “orderly” termination of the program.

“CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED,” Trump declared on his Truth Social platform. “LONG LIVE THE KING!”

The decision has sparked debate, with supporters praising the move as a victory for drivers and small businesses, while critics argue it undermines efforts to reduce traffic congestion and environmental impact in one of the country’s busiest metropolitan areas.

As the administration moves forward with dismantling the initiative, questions remain about how New York City will address its ongoing transportation and infrastructure challenges.
