Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told GB News that the Prince of Wales is not allowing the drama surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to distract him from his meaningful work. “There is, as everyone knows, a rift in the royal family, but the Sussexes, not William, were the cause of it,” Fitzwilliams shared.
The expert pointed out a notable contrast between the brothers’ approaches to environmental advocacy. “Harry and Meghan have spoken about environmental matters and have not always practiced what they preached,” he remarked, referring to past criticism the Sussexes faced over their private jet use.
In contrast, Fitzwilliams praised William’s leadership in spearheading the Earthshot Prize, a global initiative aimed at finding innovative solutions to the world’s environmental challenges. “It is clear that William is emphasizing the purpose of the Earthshot Prize, which is to find solutions to the environmental crisis,” he said.
Fitzwilliams further noted that William is keenly aware of the public’s fatigue over being “constantly told what not to do.” He explained: “He knows, though this is seldom referred to by those who speak out on climate change, that there is far too much preaching on this topic.”
The expert believes William’s approach is more focused on encouragement and motivation. “William realizes that if people are constantly told what not to do—that they shouldn’t fly or eat less meat—that sort of thing turns people off,” Fitzwilliams said. “He wants to inspire.”
