A court in England has convicted 24-year-old Scott Jeff of killing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter, Isabella Jonas-Wheildon, in June 2023. Shockingly, Isabella’s mother, Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, 24, failed to stop the abuse and has also been held accountable.

According to a release from the Suffolk Constabulary, Jeff began abusing Isabella shortly after he reconnected with Gleason-Mitchell in May 2023. The pair had briefly dated in 2019 but rekindled their relationship just weeks before the tragedy.

By early June, the couple traveled with Isabella to Great Yarmouth, where they stayed at various locations. When they ran out of money for accommodations, they resorted to living in a tent on the beach. On June 16, police conducted a welfare check and urged the pair to find suitable housing.

“It is believed that Isabella had already sustained broken wrists and some bruising prior to their arrival in Ipswich, and she was frequently seen wearing a winter coat (during what was a very hot June) and large sunglasses to hide injuries,” the release noted.

On June 26, Jeff reportedly assaulted Isabella, leaving her unresponsive. The couple claimed they attempted CPR but could not revive her. Gleason-Mitchell told the court she realized her daughter had died at 11:37 p.m. Shockingly, just 30 minutes later, surveillance footage captured the pair visiting shops as if nothing had happened.

In the days following Isabella’s death, Jeff and Gleason-Mitchell continued pushing her lifeless body in a stroller, visiting shops and restaurants, behaving as though everything was normal. Their disturbing charade lasted three days until a concerned friend contacted the police.

“As the week progressed, Gleason-Mitchell was in contact with a friend and told her something bad had happened, before eventually disclosing that Isabella had died and her body was in a buggy in the bathroom of their flat,” the release stated.

Authorities discovered Isabella’s body in the stroller at their Ipswich apartment. Jeff and Gleason-Mitchell were later found in Bury St Edmunds after spending hours in a pub. Both denied killing Isabella, but the jury unanimously convicted Jeff of murder. Gleason-Mitchell pleaded guilty to causing or allowing her child’s death.

Craig Powell, the senior investigating officer, praised Isabella’s family for their bravery during the trial. “Isabella has I know touched the hearts of so many,” he said. “This trial and the pain and suffering which it caused was only necessary due to Scott unsuccessfully attempting to deny his guilt.”

The heartbreaking case has sparked widespread outrage, with Isabella’s tragic story serving as a sobering reminder of the need to protect vulnerable children.
