Trump Allies Slam FBI Director Wray for ‘Undermining Transition’ with Last-Minute Promotions
Donald Trump’s supporters are fuming over outgoing FBI Director Christopher Wray’s actions as he oversees the law enforcement agency in the final days of the Biden administration. Wray, who was appointed by Trump, announced he would resign at the conclusion of Biden’s presidency.
However, in the meantime, he has reportedly begun promoting employees within the senior executive service, drawing sharp criticism from Trump’s allies. “Mr. Wray has already begun promoting employees among the senior executive service, those who serve within the bureau’s leadership, according to sources within the bureau who described it as an effort to burrow establishment figures deeper within the FBI,” said Kerry Picket, senior congressional reporter for the Washington Times.
The sources claim that a plan is also being devised to delay the new FBI director’s entry into the agency for three to four months, which they argue could complicate matters for the incoming administration.
This development has sparked outrage from Trump loyalists, who see it as a deliberate effort to undermine the transition. Jeffrey Clark, a former Justice Department official, expressed concern that Wray’s actions were designed to frustrate the plans of Kash Patel, a Trump ally expected to take a leadership role within the Bureau.
“This is a clear attempt to gum up the works of the FBI to frustrate Kash Patel’s takeover of the Bureau,” Clark said. “Why aren’t we hearing condemnations of such conduct from the Left? It is conduct contrary to ‘democracy.’”
Some on social media also voiced their discontent with Wray’s actions. “This is a government-wide effort to put sand in the gears of the incoming Trump Administration,” said X user Steve Ferguson. Trump supporters on the platform echoed similar frustrations, with Mary Adams remarking, “Do you think the FBI can be saved at this point? Always the same playbook, same as they did to Trump 2017—have people embedded everywhere. Fire them all, start with new people.”
“Just fire them all or scatter them across the country,” added self-identified “GenX Constitutionalist” Angel Fawn, emphasizing the desire for a complete overhaul within the agency. As Wray’s tenure at the FBI nears its end, the ongoing tensions between Trump allies and the Bureau are unlikely to dissipate, with many of the president-elect’s supporters demanding sweeping changes.
