An eight-month-old baby, Jannah Abughazaleh, tragically died after her parents allegedly placed her in scalding bath water and failed to seek medical care for her severe burns. Jannah’s parents, Hussein Abughazaleh and Kristina Siedlecki, initially claimed the child’s injuries stemmed from a bath she had taken days earlier.
However, investigators revealed the pair reportedly admitted to witnessing Jannah’s burns worsen over several days without seeking medical treatment, leaving her in prolonged pain. Authorities confirmed Jannah succumbed to her injuries days after the alleged incident. Both parents have since been arrested and charged with murder.
This heartbreaking case comes alongside another tragedy in Texas, where 22-year-old Yanira Prado faces capital murder charges after a newborn baby was found deceased in her toilet. The Odessa Police Department discovered the baby on October 9 after responding to a call at Prado’s home.
Investigators ordered an autopsy, which revealed the infant had been born alive but suffocated “on amniotic fluid, other fluids, and strange fibers.” Prado is accused of “knowingly and willfully” drowning the child, according to police.
Prado, who was taken to the Medical Center Hospital for examination after the incident, claimed she was unaware of her pregnancy. In a statement to authorities, she said she believed she was experiencing a bowel movement when she gave birth, told local NBC affiliate KCRA.
Prado admitted to using nail clippers to cut the umbilical cord but said she became lightheaded and couldn’t stand up from the toilet. “The baby did not cry or make any noise,” Prado told police, adding that she panicked and texted someone else in the house for help instead of seeking immediate medical assistance.
Reports revealed that no one in the household knew Prado was expecting, though one individual recalled questioning her about a lack of feminine hygiene products in the trash. Prado was arrested “without incident” last Friday and is being held at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on $1 million bail.
She faces charges of capital murder, tampering with evidence, and an immigration-related offense. Both cases underscore harrowing failures to protect vulnerable children, sparking widespread outrage and highlighting the devastating consequences of neglect and abuse. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these tragic deaths as justice is sought for both infants.
