Prince Harry has been labeled “rather strange” for addressing rumors about his personal life in what some see as an unusual PR move, according to royal editor Kate Mansey. During an episode of The Royals Podcast with host Roya Nikkah, Mansey discussed Harry’s recent remarks, specifically his attempt to clarify speculation surrounding his marriage and living arrangements.
The Duke of Sussex had said, “Apparently, we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, or 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?” Mansey found it surprising that Harry chose to publicly engage with such rumors.
“It’s interesting that he’s addressing those rumors publicly,” she noted. “It seems like quite a strange thing to do.” She went further, offering insight into Harry’s possible mindset. “I think he’s rattled by a lot of what’s written about him, and he always has been,” Mansey added, suggesting the constant scrutiny may have prompted Harry’s decision to respond so directly.
Harry’s comments were made during his recent appearance at the New York Times DealBook Online Summit, where he opened up about his current life in the United States. The Duke not only dispelled the swirling rumors but also spoke about his future plans, particularly when it comes to raising his children.
“I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here,” he said about his life in California. “It’s a part of my life that I never thought I was going to live.”
Mansey’s take reflects a broader curiosity about Harry’s decision to engage so candidly with gossip, something senior royals typically avoid. Traditionally, the Royal Family follows the motto “never complain, never explain,” opting not to dignify speculation with a response. Harry’s approach, however, represents a marked departure from that strategy.
While some see Harry’s comments as an effort to reclaim control over his narrative, others, like Mansey, question whether addressing such rumors only draws more attention to them.
