Former Republican congressman Joe Walsh expressed deep concern over President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Tulsi Gabbard for a key national security role, calling her a greater threat than Pete Hegseth, Trump’s pick for Defense Secretary.

In an MSNBC interview over the weekend, Walsh responded to a question about Trump’s Cabinet selections, saying, “As bad as Pete Hegseth is, he is not your top concern, is he?” Walsh did not hesitate to express his unease about Gabbard, adding, “Tulsi Gabbard just scares the heck out of me, and we are not talking about her yet, because there have been so many bad picks.”

He went on to criticize her qualifications, specifically questioning her alignment with Russian interests. “But, you are talking about putting someone in charge of our national intelligence, who has done nothing—think about this—nothing but push Putin’s propaganda for the past 10 years.”

He further remarked that the information he had been told about Gabbard was “frightening,” suggesting that her past actions could pose a serious risk to national security. “The file I have been told on her is frightening,” Walsh said.

Walsh also indicated that Senators from both parties are wary of Gabbard and Hegseth, particularly when it comes to national security issues. “Senators, Jonathan, when it comes to both Hegseth and Tulsi Gabbard, are very protective of defense and national security,” he explained. “I think both of these two nominees are in a lot of trouble.”

As the debate continues over Trump’s Cabinet picks, Walsh’s comments highlight the growing concern over Gabbard’s potential role in shaping U.S. intelligence policy.
