Serena Williams Shuts Down Skin Bleaching Rumors: ‘I’m a Dark, Black Woman, and I Love How I Look
Serena Williams has responded to rumors alleging that she bleaches her skin, calling out the “haters” spreading such claims. During an Instagram Live on December 2, the 43-year-old tennis legend addressed the allegations after sharing a video of herself at a school event with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and their two daughters, Olympia and Adira.
The rumors gained traction after Williams posted a video of herself participating in a makeup tutorial for her Wyn Beauty brand. In the video, Williams took the opportunity to clear up the misconceptions about her complexion. While applying makeup, she said, “I do not bleach my skin. There is a thing called sunlight, and in that sunlight, you get different colors.”
Williams went on to explain that the video, which went viral in late November, was filmed during a volunteer event at her daughter’s school play and that she was wearing “stage makeup” at the time. Expressing frustration with those questioning her appearance, Williams added, “I’m a dark, Black woman, and I love who I am, and I love how I look.”
She also clarified that while she respects others’ choices, skin lightening is not something she is interested in. “If people do it, that’s their thing, and they have every opportunity to do so. I don’t judge, but you guys do. But no, I actually don’t bleach my skin, so can we just kinda clear that up?”
Williams, who has been open about the cosmetic procedures she has undergone, including a radio frequency treatment for stomach tightening, remains confident in her natural beauty. Despite the attention surrounding her appearance, the 23-time Grand Slam champion emphasized that she is proud of her identity. “I love how I look,” she proudly declared.
Through her candid response, Williams has made it clear that she embraces her natural complexion and is not swayed by the negativity surrounding her.
