Marjorie Taylor Greene Cries Fraud as Democrat Adam Gray Overtakes GOP in Tight California Race
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and other MAGA loyalists are in an uproar as Democrat Adam Gray overtook Republican Rep. John Duarte in California’s 13th congressional district, narrowing the GOP’s majority in the House of Representatives.
Recently tallied ballots gave Gray a razor-thin lead of just over 100 votes, putting Democrats on track to secure their 215th seat in the House. If Gray’s lead holds, it would leave Republicans with a precariously slim majority, intensifying tensions in the already divided chamber.
Greene took to X (formerly Twitter) to vent her frustration, accusing Democrats of election fraud without evidence. “Congressman John Duarte was winning but after 22 days of counting ballots he is now losing by 105 votes,” she wrote. “Democrats are stealing another House seat! Elections nationwide should be one day, paper ballots, and require proof of citizenship with ID!!”
Her comments echoed longstanding unsubstantiated claims about election integrity frequently pushed by Trump-aligned Republicans. Greene’s accusations were joined by other MAGA voices, many of whom also resorted to inflammatory language.
“Democrats need to go to prison for this,” posted one Trump supporter on X. “We can’t have rampant cheating on elections and have a civil society.” Another angrily declared, “F— these welfare leeches. Pieces of s—.” Adding to the conspiracy theories, the account “End Wokeness” claimed, “Adam Gray (D) overtakes Rep. Duarte (R) by 105 votes in California-13. Pelosi’s daughter is ‘curing ballots.’”
The accusations align with a broader narrative among MAGA supporters, who continue to falsely claim widespread election fraud in U.S. elections, including the debunked assertion that Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential race against President Joe Biden.
California’s 13th district race remains one of the tightest in the nation, reflecting the high stakes for both parties. With every seat critical to determining the balance of power in the House, the outcome could shape legislative priorities heading into 2025.
Despite the claims by Greene and her allies, no evidence has surfaced to suggest any wrongdoing in the ballot-counting process. Election officials in California have maintained that the extended timeline for results is a normal part of the state’s process, which emphasizes accuracy and inclusivity in counting all ballots. As the race remains in the spotlight, Greene’s incendiary remarks highlight the deep divisions and growing distrust within American politics.
