For Olivia Munn, keeping her partner John Mulaney safe has become a full-time (and humorous) priority. During a recent event where he presented Munn with InStyle’s Woman of Impact award, the 42-year-old comedian shared snippets of Munn’s vigilant and often comical text messages aimed at safeguarding him from potential hazards. “Olivia is constantly trying to keep me out of danger and keep me alive through a series of texts throughout our entire relationship,” Mulaney joked to the audience.

One memorable instance was when Mulaney mentioned he was heading out to shop for new clothes. Munn quickly sent him a warning text: “Baby, be so careful today. You can get monkeypox trying on clothes at a store and/or not washing your new clothes.” Mulaney’s recount of the text drew laughs, as the crowd appreciated the lengths Munn goes to in order to protect him from unlikely dangers.

In another example, Munn forwarded Mulaney a People magazine article with the eye-catching headline, “Florida man dies of brain-eating amoeba after rinsing sinuses with tap water.” Beneath it, she texted, “John, John, we are never moving to Tampa.” Mulaney added, laughing, “Now, we had never discussed moving to Tampa, but it was officially off the table.”

Another of Munn’s warnings arrived during a simple father-son stroll. Mulaney, who was out with their son Malcolm, received an unexpected message from Munn. “She wrote me out of nowhere, no context, ‘Please be so careful today. So many crazy things can come out of nowhere,’” he recounted. Intrigued, he replied, “Like what?” Munn’s reply was succinct: “Crazy cars.” Mulaney quipped, “You don’t hear enough about crazy cars. I can’t believe it’s not an issue in this election.”

Following Mulaney’s anecdotes, Munn playfully responded on her Instagram Stories, clarifying that her concerns were genuine. “To be clear, I was dead serious about each of those texts,” she wrote. “Brain-eating amoebas are a very real threat. As well as not washing new clothes after buying. As well as water beads for kids.”

She ended with a teasing reminder to her followers: “Don’t sleep on any of my warnings.” The lighthearted exchange highlights Munn’s protective nature and Mulaney’s appreciation of her care—even if it comes with a dose of humor. Their dynamic reveals the unique blend of love and comedy in their relationship, keeping both fans and each other entertained.
