Alec Baldwin recently paid tribute to his father, Alexander Rae Baldwin II, who passed away 41 years ago. Taking to Instagram on Monday, Alec shared a video reflecting on his father’s influence and the lasting impact of his loss. In the video, Alec shared how his father’s death, just 12 days after his birthday in 1983, has continued to shape his life.

Reflecting on his struggle to find the right words, Alec said, “I always feel inept, ’cause I can’t think of things to say… and that’s not true, I can think of things to say, but I guess it’s kind of too painful to say them. But my dad was an important part of my life, even though I was young when he died.”

Now 66, Alec noted that he has outlived his father, a fact he finds both poignant and unsettling. “I always wonder the same thing, which is what life would’ve been if my dad had been around longer,” he mused. “If he was alive today, he would be 96 years old. That would be a lot to ask, I guess, 96.”

Alec spoke about the evolving role of fathers, explaining that they often remain “in the wings” during their children’s youth, only to have their words and lessons take on greater significance as they grow older. “The things that they have to say or the things that they offer you as a parent are more relevant and more interesting as they get older,” Alec reflected.

He concluded the video with a simple yet emotional farewell: “So anyway, happy birthday to my dad. Happy birthday to my dad, wherever you are.”

Alec’s tribute captured the enduring bond between father and son, revealing a deep sense of gratitude and reflection as he honored his father’s memory on what would have been a milestone birthday.
