Brooke Shields Reflects on Daughter Grier Henchy’s Runway Debut at New York Fashion Week
Brooke Shields recently opened up about her daughter Grier Henchy’s first runway appearance at the Tommy Hilfiger show during New York Fashion Week. Speaking with PEOPLE, Shields expressed her admiration, saying, “I was blown away by my daughter. I really was.”
Reflecting on her daughter’s impressive walk, Shields admitted, “I can’t coach that… How would I even walk like that?” The Suddenly Susan actress shared that, though she has extensive modeling experience, runway work was never her forte.
Shields also recalled a humorous exchange with Grier before the show. “[Grier] goes, ‘What should I do?’ And I go, ‘Look hungry and angry,’” she joked. Shields laughed, remembering how Grier responded with, “You’re no help,” to which she replied, “I never walked the runway. I don’t know how to do this.” But despite the lighthearted advice, Shields was impressed by her daughter’s serious approach. “Grier took the schooling from whoever was going to give it to her, and she didn’t think she knew better, which I was very proud [of],” she said.
In a previous 2023 interview on Live with Kelly and Mark, Shields shared her initial hesitation about Grier’s choice to pursue modeling. “I fought it for so long. It’s such a different industry now than it was,” Shields admitted, explaining that the intense nature of runway modeling differs from her own modeling career.
With Grier’s growing interest in runway work, Shields decided to set boundaries. “I finally had to give in and say if you’re gonna do this then I’m not gonna be your manager,” she said, emphasizing the importance of professionalism. Shields added, “You’re going to be with an agency. You’re going to have a great work ethic. It’s not going to be comfortable, and you’re gonna listen to me.”
As Shields watches Grier embrace modeling, she remains both a supportive mother and a source of practical advice, helping her daughter navigate a competitive industry that has evolved significantly since her own modeling days.
