Former Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill expressed her delight at watching Vice President Kamala Harris take on Donald Trump, seeing it as a fitting example of “karma” at play. During an appearance on MSNBC’s “Deadline White House” on Monday, McCaskill joined host Nicolle Wallace in discussing Harris’ rise and the underestimation she has faced.

Wallace highlighted what she called the “phenomenon of a woman being underestimated,” praising Harris’ “political acumen” and how much she has exceeded expectations. McCaskill agreed, pointing to Harris’ recent successes as a prime example of poetic justice.

“I think it’s a good reminder that sometimes what we see is so superficial,” McCaskill said, emphasizing that the way people consume media today often leads to shallow perceptions. She noted that many had overlooked Harris’ achievements and capabilities, focusing instead on her initial challenges as vice president, told MSNBC News.

McCaskill attributed the low expectations for Harris to political elites who were quick to judge her early performance. “What was forgotten is the battle she had fought and won thus far in her life, the obstacles she had overcome, her skill, her raw intelligence, and incredible work ethic,” she explained. According to McCaskill, Harris has been underestimated not just by Republicans, but by members of her own Democratic Party.

She also praised Harris’ choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, noting that both Harris and Walz have surprised and impressed voters in a short amount of time. McCaskill contrasted Harris’ brief but impactful campaign with Trump’s nearly two-year-long campaign trail, expressing her satisfaction with how things have unfolded.

“I love it that she only has a short sprint instead of a marathon, and I love that she was so underestimated,” McCaskill said with enthusiasm. She couldn’t help but relish the idea of Trump being defeated by Harris. “And you talk about karma — for Donald Trump to be taken out by this woman! Oh, my God, it’s just too good to be true!” she laughed. McCaskill’s comments reflect a broader sense of vindication among Harris supporters, who see her recent momentum as a triumph over those who doubted her abilities.
